Happy Holidays from Sisters And Daughters!

I would like to share with you one of my favorite family traditions. Although it is not doll related, it is a wonderful project that can be done by anyone - even children. These beautiful stars are made from most any lightweight paper. Plain bond printer paper makes elegant white stars. Wrapping paper, especially foiled paper, works extremely well and is perfect for making beautiful and even dramatic decorations for your home.

For years we have had clusters of these stars hanging by ribbon from our foyer ceiling as part of our holiday decorations. This year we are decorating our tree with tiny white stars.
All you need for this project is enough paper to cut 12 circles. ( I suggest a five or six inch diameter to begin. The smaller the circle the harder they are to roll.) , white craft glue like Elmer's, two sturdy cardboard circles cut about the size of a quarter, a large darning needle, and very heavy duty carpet thread or fishing line.

From my family to yours -
Happy Holidays!

Directions for the Christmas Star
From Diane Lewis

1. Cut 12 Circles. Use a saucer or plate as a template. Six inches is a good size to start with. This will be the diameter of your star.

2. Fold circle in half.

3. Then in half again.

4. And then once more. You now have the circle divided into eight parts.

5. Cut on the fold lines about ¾ of the way to the center.
Repeat on all 12 circles.

6. Now you are going to turn each section into a cone. The center of each section will be the point of the cone. Roll the paper so it forms a sharp point.

7. Apply glue to the edge of the paper. Use glue sparingly. You won't want lots of smeared glue showing on the star.

8. Press the glued edge to the cone. Repeat on remaining cones.

9. Aim for a medium size cone. Too tightly rolled and the star looks skinny. Too fat a cone and the inside of the cones will show.

10. Cut 2 circles about the size of a quarter from very sturdy cardboard. Thread a large eyed darning needle with very strong carpet thread or fishing line. You may choose to double the thread so you have 4 strands.

11. Tie a large double knot on the end of the thread. Thread through one of the cardboard circles. Then begin stringing the individual circles

12. The circles are strung with the first six facing up and the second six facing down. Be sure to stagger the points as you layer the circles.

13. When all 12 circles are strung add the cardboard circle to the top of the stack.

14. Pull the thread. The star will begin to take shape.

15. Separate the strands and pull very hard. This will cause the layers of circles to compress and form a sphere. Tie a double knot in the thread to secure the star.
